Novice Knitters Noted

"Learning does not consist only of knowing what we must or we can do, but also of knowing what we could do and perhaps should not do."  - Emberto Eco

You may have noticed a little survey over at Beanswallow's; I was curious to know just how much sock experience we have among us.  With only 20% of our class reporting, the current results indicate a bunch of enthusiastic - although somewhat inexperienced - sock makers!  Fifteen of us have made 0-5 socks - that's 75% (and who is wearing that 5th sock?)!   Four classmates have 6-18 socks to their credit and so far only one who has knitted more than 19 socks (and frankly, charmed needles shouldn't count and I didn't specifically state "magic knitting does not count").

In light of these results, it might be helpful if a casual discussion of our experience and styles took place on blogs or in Common Rooms.  For example, although I don't have much experience I am confident and adventurous.  Someone else might be curious about colorwork or cables.

And if you have a Ravenclaw buddy ...  We will be in the Ravenclaw Common Room Wednesday evening chatting up our sock history, hopes and dreams.   Don't forget Common Room discussions are archived.

PS: If you haven't already, head over and take the survey!

I think I was one of those in the middle group, 6+ socks. I have not been adventurous, however, with what I have knit.

I have to say, the 5th sock is probably due to 2nd sock syndrome, by the way.

I am excited about knitting a pair of hogwarts socks, though. They will have to be Dobby socks. In honor of the poor little house elf.

If anyone would like some advice, or some spirit, let me know. :)
