Preparations for next term at Hogwarts are in the works. We are considering making changes to the swap kit and would like to get your opinions and ideas.
Besides, instead of, or in addition to a handmade bag, what other handmade items would you like to receive?
We are interested in all suggestions and magical ideas, keeping in mind that we would like to keep everything Harry Potter related. Please post your ideas here before the end of the term.

A few random ideas that I think it would be easy to 'Potterize':
*Sock blockers
*A holder for keeping sewing up needles in
*A hand embellished knitting journal
How about House Scarves in addition to the bags (I love the bag idea)? Or if that's too much, house scarf bookmarks?
I like the bookmark idea, and/or maybe some type of HP themed toy (owl, snitch, etc.). HP themed dishcloth? Or maybe a choose-your-own adventure like when you get your driver's license and you need 1 thing from list A (bigger items) or 2 things from list B (smaller items).
I love the idea about the choices...
some more possible items would be
-socks
-hats
-keychains (like mini-socks or snitch etc)
Olivia, the dishcloths would be a good idea--there are patterns available for free on the Internet, and they work up quickly in inexpensive cotton. I've done the Snitch cloth and the Prizoner of Azkaban cloth and given them as gifts.
Love the toy idea - there was a cute owl in one package that I adored so much I found the pattern (via Ravelry of course!) and put it in my queue.
I think something with the house animal on it. OF course, this might be a little easier to find somthing for Gryffs than Hufflepuffs! Well, unless you live in Wisconsin. :-)
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the choose your own adventure idea!!!
Things from list A could include the bag, a full size scarf, a hat, gloves for the particularly adventurous, things like that. I, personally, would LOVE another bag because I'm still a beginning enough knitter that I don't have enough bags for projects and whatnot. Or as many as I'd like to have... would those preferences come into play when choosing partners? That might make it more complicated. Hmmmmm........
I love the choose your own adventure idea. I agree with the option for another bag, before recieving my kit my WIPs were transported in muggle plastic shopping bags. *blushes*
I love the sock blocker idea. And one house item, like a hat, gloves, or scarf. And pre-knit socks.
I would think that to give pre-knit socks (and gloves and hats) we would have to include our measurements so we could get some really nice fitting stuff. We could make a pair of socks in our house colors and send the person the pattern and yarn to make the same socks in their own house colors.
Please keep in mind that some of us have not yet mastered the Sock Arts . . .
My concern with something like sock blockers is that they can potentially be quite expensive, and/or difficult to ship.
Yes - bought sock blockers are very costly. I suggested them as handmade items (by the swappee) because I've seen inspiring tutorials on how to make them from bargain store placemats. A woodworker could also easily make some quite cheaply. They have great potential as a decorative surface (e.g. for decoupage, transfers or folk art).
I love the idea of choosing your own gifts from lists. Items such as socks, embellished boxes, bags, journals/sketchbooks, fingerless gloves, scarves, bookmarks, favorite book etc. I personally do not need ay more needles so it would be cost savings to take that off the list.
As for sock blockers, you can make them cheaply out of vinyl place mats! You can search the web for patterns.
These are all great ideas. I had a friend of mine make me some sock blockers. I do like all the ideas. I am open for any thing
I think the list idea is great. That way there could be options for students of all knitting levels. I LOVE the little owl my swap pal sent me, so I think the toys idea is awesome too! Maybe "magical creatures" or your Hogwarts pet?
